William Fox founded Fox studios in 1913, where he produced the famous Movie tone Newsreels. With the success of the Newsreels, in 1916 he purchased Selig Studio for expansion. In 1928, he needed to expand even more and moved their studios to Century City. The land used to be the ranch of Western Movie Star Tom Mix. In 1935, he merged with Twentieth Century Pictures that was founded by Daryll Zanuck and the company became Twentieth Century Fox. The studio is now owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.
Some of the classics done at Fox are All About Eve, Cleopatra, Original Sherlock Holmes, Planet of the Apes, The Omen, Alien, Independence Day, Home Alone 3, Volcano, Alien Resurrection, Speed, That Thing You Do, Broken Arrow, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, Waiting To Exhale, French Kiss, The Last of the Mohicans, True Lies, Nell, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Mrs. Doubtfire. In 1956, Elvis Presley made his first movie for Fox, Love Me Tender.
Their television side is just as impressive with some of their hits including: Angel, 24, Reba, The Simpsons, Boston Public, Malcolm in the Middle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ally McBeal, and The X-Files.
